Snowflake to Databricks
Snowflake to Databricks migration
The short answer
Novuz converts Snowflake SQL, stored procedures, views, tasks, streams and stages into Databricks SQL, PySpark and Workflows with fixed rules. Every object ships with a reconciliation report comparing Snowflake and Databricks output on the same inputs, and the software runs inside your own cloud account.
Risks
What breaks in a Snowflake migration
These are the five problems we see most often in Snowflake estates.
- Snowflake stored procedures are written in JavaScript, Snowflake Scripting or Python, and each needs a different conversion pattern to Databricks SQL procedures or PySpark.
- Tasks and streams carry orchestration and change-data logic with no one-to-one equivalent; they have to be rebuilt as Workflows and Delta change data feeds without losing the dependency chain.
- Semi-structured data handled with VARIANT, FLATTEN and LATERAL behaves differently on Databricks and silently changes results if converted literally.
- Zero-copy clones, time travel and Snowflake-specific functions (QUALIFY, IFF, TRY_ casts, the sampling functions) need rule-level mappings, not search and replace.
- Stages, Snowpipe and external tables hold load logic that lives outside the SQL and is often undocumented.
Coverage
What Novuz converts
Final coverage is confirmed during the assessment.
| Snowflake object | Databricks target |
|---|---|
| Tables (permanent, transient, temporary) | Delta tables with matching retention and clustering where needed |
| Views and secure views | Databricks SQL views; row and column security through Unity Catalog |
| Stored procedures (JavaScript, Scripting, Python) | Databricks SQL procedures or PySpark notebooks, by pattern |
| User-defined functions | Databricks SQL or Python UDFs |
| Tasks and task trees | Databricks Workflows with the original dependencies |
| Streams | Delta change data feed and incremental logic |
| Stages, Snowpipe, external tables | Auto Loader, COPY INTO and external locations |
| VARIANT and semi-structured handling | Delta with explicit schema or variant handling, reconciled field by field |
| Data | Bulk and incremental data migration |
Worked example
What a typical estate looks like
An illustrative Snowflake estate at a media and analytics company. These figures are an example, not a customer result.
- 1,200 objects across 5 databases: 400 views, 350 stored procedures, 250 tasks and streams, 200 UDFs and stages
- 40 TB of data, a third of it semi-structured
- Complexity split: 50% low, 35% medium, 15% high
- Assessment output: a fixed price for the full estate and a recommended first domain of about 400 objects
Proof
Delivered on Databricks
Media, advertising and analytics companies have moved Snowflake estates to Databricks with Novuz, every object reconciled. Delivered estates of 1,000 to 1,600 objects typically go from code received to reconciled output in 4 to 8 weeks.¹ Novuz is a Databricks validated technology partner.

Pricing for Snowflake to Databricks
Pricing follows object count and complexity, not hours. Many teams time the assessment to land before the next Snowflake commit renewal, so the conversion number is on the table when the bill is.
Estate assessment
$3,000. Three business days. Credited in full.2
First Domain
$25,000 to $40,000. 5 to 6 weeks on one domain of up to 1,500 components. Equivalence guarantee in writing.2
Full estate
Fixed from the assessment. Typically $40,000 to $200,000 for 1,500 to 10,000 objects, or an enterprise license for larger estates.2
Honest fit
Who should not choose Novuz
Novuz is not the right choice for estates under about 300 objects; for Oracle-only or mainframe estates; for teams with no target and no date inside 18 months; for buyers who want staff augmentation rather than software; or for organizations that cannot run software inside their environment or share code for an assessment.
